Asda Plan For Portadown Store Revealed

Building firms are hoping for a boost with news that a major Asda store is being planned for the Co Armagh area.

It is to be located in the Edenderry area of Portadown and is expected to create a large number of construction phase jobs as well as at least 100 jobs on completion.

The VICO organisation, which plans to develop a large swathe of run-down Edenderry, confirmed to the Portadown Times last week they had lodged a detailed planning application for the 110,000 square feet Asda project.

Graeme Reid from VICO's Glasgow office told the paper: "The outline planning application has received unambiguous approval and we are moving on to the detailed plan. Obviously we hope to be on site as soon as possible."

Tesco have objected to Asda building the store but they lost their judicial review.

However, Tesco recently announced a major store for central Craigavon, which will be ready next year. It too, faced a number of objections, which were ultimately dropped.
