Bomb Alert Ends
Residents in Londonderry who had to be moved from their homes on Thursday night because of a security alert were able to return to their homes shortly before 1am this morning. The alert, at Abercorn Place in Derry, has since been declared a hoax after a controlled explosion was carried out on a suspicious object which was then removed for examination. SDLP Councillor Helen Quigley has strongly condemned those responsible for last night's security alert. "The police clearly believed this presented a credible threat as they called in the bomb squad. Whoever can do this type of things cares nothing for the people of the locality. There is no support for this type of activity and I would urge those responsible to desist immediately," she said.
