INLA issue death threats to Protestant workers in M&S store
A Marks & Spencer distribution centre has received a call from republican paramilitaries threatening its Protestant staff.
The Hyde Park centre at Mallusk in Newtownabbey received the threat reportedly from the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA) in a recorded telephone message on Monday January 14.
The police said they were investigating the phone call and that although no code word was used, they would be taking the death threats made against workers “very seriously”. A police spokesman added that they had given security advice to management within the M&S centre.
Sinn Féin South Antrim constituency representative Councillor Martin Meehan has said the death threats against protestant workers in Mallusk are to be “deplored.”
Mr Meehan said: “Sectarianism has no place on a republican agenda. This latest threat only serves to exacerbate an already deplorable situation. If as reported the INLA are behind this development I would call on them to withdraw the threat immediately.
“Threats against workers irrespective of their religious and political outlook are to be deplored. Those responsible for issuing these will find that their actions do not have the support of republican people.” (AMcE)

Death Threats Lifted Against Community Wardens
Dissident republican death threats made against community support workers at Derry City Council have been lifted. It is understood the trade union NIPSA has confirmed that threats, made on two separate occasions against the council's community workers, have now been lifted.

Police investigate death threats against postal workers
Police are investigating death threats issued to two Catholic postal workers in Londonderry at the weekend. The two workers received 'sympathy' cards to their separate home addresses, which were marked 'Ulster Volunteer Force' inside. The workers have taken leave off work after receiving the cards on Saturday.

Threats Against Restorative Justice Workers Condemned
Three restorative justice workers in west Belfast have been warned of threats against their lives. Dissident republicans are said to have issued the death threats because of the organisation's co-operation with police. Community Restorative Justice Ireland Director (CRJI) Jim Auld was informed of the threats through a local media group.

Loyalist death threats condemned by postal unions
The Royal Mail have confirmed that they are treating loyalist death threats made against postal workers in Belfast seriously. Postal unions have condemned the threats and the Royal Mail are understood to be in discussions with police to increase security for postal workers. It is reported that two of the employees threatened are managers.

Man Arrested Over Kevin Kearney Murder
A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Kevin Kearney (46) in north Belfast. The body of Mr Kearney was found in a lake at Alexandra Park on 08 October last year. Mr Kearney had been shot the day before while out walking his dogs.
