Find your ideal career at Opportunities 2002

Whether you’re looking for a career change, wish to retrain or simply want to find out more about your dream job, then Opportunities 2002 is the place to be.

The event, which takes place at the RDS in Dublin from Friday, February 1 to Monday, February 4, is Europe’s largest career, education and skills showcase, offering visitors the ideal chance to see what job vacancies, training courses and education options are available in Ireland.

Around 150 representatives from all over Ireland and beyond will be at Opportunities 2002, covering a wide variety of careers, including: healthcare, moviemaking, journalism, finance, marketing and tourism. A number of high-profile companies will be represented, including Microsoft, Holiday Inn Hotels and Toni & Guy hairdressers.

Visitors wishing to find out more about education and training can visit the ‘Education Village’ where they will be able to receive expert advice on further education options in Ireland and the UK. There will be representatives from a variety of colleges, universities and training institutes, including Trinity College, Dublin and Middlesex University.

If you’re interested in apprenticeships or traineeships, there will also be a selection of practical trade demonstrations in areas such as mechanics and painting and decorating as well as information on high-tech training programmes in industries including childcare and business administration.

At the ‘Education Village’, you will also be able to experience a wide range of IT skills, from basic computing and keyboard skills to advanced programming and web design.

There will also be a series of free seminars at Opportunities 2002, offering practical career planning advice on a variety of subjects, including interview techniques and information on apprenticeships and traineeships.

Woman becomes the 16th person arrested in Derry raids
A woman has become the 16th person to be arrested following a number of police raids in Londonderry on Wednesday. Ten men and five women were detained on both sides of the River Foyle following a planned operation by detectives investigating serious organised crime in the area yesterday.

Minister announces Youth Conferencing Service
Criminal Justice Minister John Spellar today announced the introduction of a pilot Youth Conferencing Service for young people who plead guilty or are found guilty of an offence. John Spellar said the move marked the introduction of a new system of youth conferencing based on the principles of restorative justice.

A-Z Guide launched for people with disabilities
The first ever A-Z guide for people with disabilities has been launched by the Minister for Social Development, Nigel Dodds. The Guide, which includes information on benefits, education, transport, aids and equipment and carers is a joint venture between the Social Security Agency and Disability Action.
