Unite Condemns Sellafield Job Cuts
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has announced that because of a shortfall in the funding for clearing up the Sellafield site it is considering a cut of 1,200 jobs.
Dougie Rooney, Unite National Officer for the energy sector, said: "Unite is extremely concerned about the proposed 1,200 job losses at the Sellafield site and will not accept compulsory redundancies.
"Our union will be arguing that we need to build a new Mox plant to reprocess the plutonium on the site and use the same site to power the new nuclear power stations. Therefore, we need to be utilising the employees not making them redundant."
Unite is now demanding urgent talks with the Sellafield management.
