bmi unveil further details about no-frills option

The UK’s second largest airline, bmi british midland, is to launch a new no-frills budget option under the brand name bmibaby.

Speaking at a press event held at East Midlands Airport on Thursday January 17, bmibaby’s new managing director, Tony Davis, said that he was “looking forward” to the competition that the airline’s launch would bring into the budget flight sector, especially in the East Midlands area.

Making reference to recent promises made by Go about what he dismissed as ‘phantom services’ to the area, Mr Davis added: “Now is the time to tell the people of the East Midlands just when are where they will fly. The commitment of bmi has always been clear and we have never shirked away from competition – a quality that will definitely be inherited by bmibaby.”

Bmibaby will be flying a dedicated fleet of Boeing 737-300 aircraft, serving a range of destinations which will include flights to Barcelona, Nice, Palma, Malaga and Alicante. Internet fares on the budget airline will start at £25 and services will commence on 23 March, with seats on sale later this month.

Preliminary information about the new airline also suggests that bmibaby will soon extend its range of destinations, dependent on response.

Further details will be revealed at an official event to be held next week. (CL)
