Cardinal Brady Allowed Home After Illness
The Catholic Church's top cleric in Ireland, Cardinal Sean Brady, has been discharged from hospital following a health scare.
Mr Brady, 70, became ill while officiating at a confirmation service in Kildress, Co Tyrone on Tuesday evening.
An ambulance was called and the Cardinal was admitted to Craigavon Area Hospital for observation.
A spokesman for the Catholic Church said Mr Brady was "in a comfortable condition" and that he had remained conscious throughout.
The 70-year-old remained conscious throughout his ordeal and later said that he was grateful to Craigavon hospital staff for their "kindness and care".
"I am also grateful for the prayerful support and good wishes that I have received," he added.
It emerged last month that Cardinal Brady was present when children signed vows of silence over allegations against a paedophile priest in 1975.
He has since admitted he was part of a culture which put avoiding scandal above bringing clerical child abusers to justice.

The controversy surrounding the head of the Catholic Church in Ireland, Cardinal Sean Brady, could be about to take a new turn, according to the Irish Catholic newspaper. The paper told the BBC the Vatican is expected to appoint an assistant bishop to the Archdiocese of Armagh to work under Cardinal Brady.

The Northern Ireland Survivors and Victims of Institutional Abuse group (Savia) are meeting Catholic primate Cardinal Sean Brady. They are seeking guarantees of his total co-operation with the forthcoming abuse inquiry in Northern Ireland. It is the first time that Cardinal Sean Brady has met the group of survivors.

The head of the Catholic Church in Ireland, Dr Sean Brady, is to be made a cardinal. Pope Benedict XVI made the announcement at the end of his weekly audience in St Peter's Square, Rome. Ireland will now have three cardinals for the first time in its history, with Cardinal Cathal Daly and Cardinal Desmond Connell already in the roles.
