Harney Urges Nurses To Take Pay Deal

The Irish Health Minister Mary Harney has said she hopes the union representing the country's nurses will be in a position to recomend that its members accept the new 'Croke Park Agreement'.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) along with the country's largest union SIPTU are meeting today to outline their position on the deal on pay and reform in the public sector.

The executives of six other unions have already recommended that their members reject the deal struck between their representatives and the Government before Easter.

Ms Harney's comments come shortly after Trade and Commerce Minister Billy Kelleher today warned unions to step back and think about the alternatives of not accepting the public sector pay and reform deal.
