Aer Lingus Meet Union Over Possible Jobs Losses
Aer Lingus management are today meeting with representatives of the IMPACT trade union to discuss the company's decision to impose 230 compulsory redundancies on cabin crew at the airline.
The news of the redundancies came after cabin crew rejected a €97m cost-cutting plan during a union ballot this week.
It said cabin crew will be informed of the precise measures applicable to them in due course. The airline also said it will proceed with 440 voluntary lay-offs in the four other workers' groups.
Yesterday, the part state owned airline held a board meeting at which it formally approved the steps that will be taken by the Company to achieve the required savings under its cost reduction programme.
In response in IMPACT's rejection of the offer made, a spokesperson for Aer Lingus said: "Aer Lingus gratefully acknowledges the support of four of the five union groups that balloted on the 'greenfield' cost reduction programme. Given the overwhelming support of four union groups, implementation of the 1,065 compulsory redundancies contemplated in the so called 'Plan B' is unfair. Therefore Aer Lingus intends to promptly proceed with the implementation of those elements of the cost reduction programme that were agreed with those four union groups that supported the proposals.
"In the case of Cabin Crew, a new solution will incorporate redundancies, reduced salaries, new working conditions and the de-layering of the Cabin Crew organisation. Therefore Aer Lingus will notify the Irish Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment of the commencement of a 30 day compulsory consultation period as required by law. Cabin Crew will be informed of the precise measures applicable to them in due course."

Following a ballot of its members, where 87% voted in favour of industrial action, IALPA / IMPACT wrote to Aer Lingus confirming its intention to take such action.

LRC Brokers Aer Lingus Deal
The dispute between Aer Lingus and its cabin crew has ended after over a fortnight of disruption. The trade union Impact, representing the disgruntled workers, said their current industrial action will be suspended while its members will be returned to the payroll and their normal duties.

Examiner Appointed To Aer Arann
The High Court has appointed an Examiner for troubled airline, Aer Arann. Aer Arann said it intends to operate normally during the period of examinership and intends to fly all Aer Arann services and all Aer Lingus Regional services operated under the airline’s franchise agreement with Aer Lingus.
