Taxis Continue Strike In Dublin And Cork

Taxi drivers are today continuing their campaign in Dublin this morning and extending it to other areas of the city over their ongoing dispute with the Taxi Regulator.

The rank at Dublin Airport is now closed and other ranks throughout the city will close during the course of the morning.

The taxi stoppage is expected to continue until after the Irish Taxi Council's meeting at 12pm, when the situation will be reviewed.

Taxi drivers in Cork have joined the protests and are due to begin a slow drive through of the city centre this morning.

Taxi ranks at Cork Airport and Kent Railway Station as well as in Cork city centre remain closed again as the protest by full-time taxi drivers continues.

Yesterday, taxi drivers stopped working at three main airports as part of a state-wide protest. Taxis operations ceased altogether in Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports. Significant traffic delays were also being experienced in Dublin city centre where taxi drivers blocked parts of O'Connell street and drivers are also withdrew services in Tralee, Killarney, Waterford and most large towns across the country.

Driver representative bodies said this protest would continue until two taxi drivers protesting at the Regulators Office in Dublin, are allowed use sanitary facilities, get some food and come off a forced hunger strike.
