DDDA Bill Reports Criticised

Claims regarding a €600,000 travel bill run up by the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) have been described as "an orgy of spending".

A report in the Irish Independent has accused the DDDA of spending large sums on luxury travel, expensive means and fine wines.

The head of the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee, Bernard Allen, has slammed these expenses, saying suck a culture of excess should be curbed.

"I think these people were in a parallel universe," said Mr Allen said.

"At the time they thought that the world was their oyster."

Mr Allen said the bill raises major issues regarding the governance of the DDDA, adding that the authority did not seem to subject to any accountability.

The DDDA has amassed losses of around €213m.
