Drugs finds in north and east Belfast

A quantity of drugs with an estimated street value of £70,000 have been recovered in Belfast.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland's drugs squad recovered a substantial haul of cannabis resin in a house at the junction of Kylemore Park and Ballysillan Road in north Belfast at about 8.30pm on Wednesday, January 30. A police spokesperson said that the search was part of a planned police operation and the PSNI have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of weapons and drugs during a search of a house in east Belfast this morning. Police uncovered two replica handguns, 50 shotgun cartridges, 25 pistol rounds and 12 blank rounds for a .22 rifle from the Island Street house in east Belfast. Police also found paramilitary paraphernalia, a quantity of white powder and a set of weighing scales. (GMcG)

Man arrested after drugs find
Police seized a large quantity of Class A drugs, following a planned search at a premises in south Belfast yesterday. An amount of suspected Ecstasy and cocaine, with an estimated street value of £120,000, was recovered during the raid. A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged with possession of Class A drugs, with intent to supply.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

The PSNI has issued an appeal to the public regarding the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer and his family at their home in east Belfast on Sunday 30 December. Detectives from Serious Crime Branch want to speak to late night revellers who got taxis in Belfast city centre that weekend.

Investigation Launched After Man Found Dead In North Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after a man was found dead at a property in north Belfast. A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after the discovery in the Antrim Road area on Tuesday, 24 January. He has been released on bail pending further inquiries. A post-mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.

Two arrested following police raids
Two men have been arrested following police searches in north Belfast. Two handguns, ammunition, drugs worth an estimated street value of £27,000, documents and around £17,000 in cash, were seized during the raids, which are believed to be linked to organised crime in the city.
