Local company scores first in utilities sector
The Morrow Group has become one of the first utilities contractors in the UK and Ireland to implement a fully certified Integrated Management System in incorporating the requirements of three different quality standards.
Representing some good news for an industry that has recently received bad press, Morrow's acquisition of the standards ISO 9001:2001, ISO 14001:1996 and OHSAS 18001:1999 represents considerable investment by the company in improved conditions for its employees, its current – and prospective – customers and the public in general.
Morrow's worked in close cooperation with local firm Quadra, based in Hollywood, who have already assisted three of the first four organisations in Northern Ireland to be certified to the PHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System. This Standard is closely aligned to the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, and forges a link between the various aspects of quality control and environmental management.
Speaking about the need to focus on continued improvement, MD of the Morrow Group, John Morrow, commented: "This industry in general can be a notorious one with many companies having come under fire recently from the Government and the general public with the quality and quantity of their workmanship.
"Here at the Morrow Group we are raising the standards in our business for our clients in both the public and private sectors."
Morrow's currently undertakes work for NIE alongside many clients in the private sector, and the company's workforce currently totals over 100 people. (CL)
