Carrick Consultants Costing £70K

Consultants responsible for drawing up the much-debated Carrickfergus development 'Masterplan' to regenerate the seaside town will be paid £70,000 for their work.

It has been revealed that consultants from the Paul Hogarth Company have been working on the plan for almost a year.

The company specialises in urban design and architecture and is based in Belfast and Edinburgh.

The plan was commissioned in January 2009 by the Department for Social Development - in partnership with Carrickfergus Council and the Carrickfergus Development Company.

The authors of the plan recently withdrew several of their initial proposals including plans for commercial development of the Marine Gardens and a new marina at Fisherman's Quay.

There are now plans instead for a new park at Marine Gardens and a water sports centre at Fisherman's Quay.
