Farren chairs European Funding Committee

Stormont Finance Minister Dr Sean Farren, has chaired the fifth meeting of the Northern Ireland Community Support Framework (CSF) Monitoring Committee

The meeting was held in the new Lagan Valley Island centre, in Lisburn on Wednesday February 6 where Monitoring Committee members discussed how to best direct European Structural Funds expenditure in the province for 2000-2006. Amounting to almost £900 million, the money overarches both the Building Sustainable Prosperity and PEACE II programmes.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr Farren described the role of the Monitoring Committee as having "vital" role to play in ensuring that the CSF Programme met its objective of "achieving a transition to a more peaceful, stable, prosperous, fair and outward society, sustained by a better physical environment".

Dr Farren said he was also pleased to hear that significant progress was being made with the implementation of both the Building Sustainable Prosperity and PEACE II Programmes.

He added: “I very much welcome the fact that the project selection processes are nearing completion, and that the Programmes will soon be fully operational."
