UKAS push Royal Crown certification scheme
The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) aim to ensure British business choose wisely by looking for the UKAS Mark featuring the Royal Crown when purchasing certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.
This is their key aim for 2002 and will be used in a promotional push through both the Federation of Small Business (FSB) and the Small Business Service's Business Links.
UKAS estimates that of the one million calibration certificates issued every year, around 300,000 are issued by unaccredited laboratories. Similarly, of the 80,000 or so ISO 9001 certificates issued in the UK, around 15,000 are issued by companies that have not been accredited by UKAS.
Marc Cranfield-Adams, UKAS Head of Corporate Communications, said: "There is an imperative for business to be aware of the risks of buying services from organisations that cannot demonstrate their competence.
"UKAS Accreditation demonstrates an organisation's competence, impartiality and performance capability. There has to be a choice in the market, but the Government's preference is for purchasers to look for National Accreditation Marks featuring the Royal Crown, as this signifies government recognition."
For further information on the UKAS Awareness Campaign Tel: 020 8917 8554.
A programme of events has already been agreed with the Small Business Service to raise the profile of UKAS accredited services through the Business Link network in England. Similar activities are planned for the rest of the UK including Northern Ireland.
