Randalstown factory to close with the loss of 220 jobs

Around 220 jobs are set to go at the Dorma factory in Randalstown after it was revealed that a last ditch rescue bid has failed.

The announcement followed a failed management buyout which if successful would have secured the company for the foreseeable future.

Peter Booth of the Trade General Workers Union said he was 'deeply disappointed' that the buyout had failed.

SDLP MLA for South Antrim, Donovan McClelland also expressed his disappointment at the news. He said: "The news that the Dorma factory is to close will be greeted with sadness by people in the area. I want to pay tribute to all those working in the factory.

"Dorma has been facing difficulties for some time and it was hoped that those difficulties could be resolved, however this has not been the case." (MB)
