Ballymoney Foods secures £1m Safeway contract

National Chip Week will be a time for double celebration at Ballymoney Foods, Ireland's only producer of frozen potato products, as the company has won a major UK contract with retailer Safeway.

Worth over £1 million per year, the contract is an important development for Ballymoney Foods, which has been supplying Safeway stores throughout Northern Ireland with their frozen chip range since the retailer opened its first store in the province in 1997. The new UK contract is for Safeway's American Fries.

According to Gary Millar, General Manager of Ballymoney Foods, winning this contract is an important endorsement of the quality and high standards of potato products produced by the company: "This is a highly significant supply deal for Ballymoney foods, and we are delighted that our relationship with Safeway has progressed to this stage. Our company ethos is firmly focused on the development of strong, working partnerships, with our producers and customers alike, and the benefits of such an approach are evident in today's announcement.

"It reflects both the high standard of product being supplied by local farmers, and the confidence that Safeway has in our traceability and quality assurance systems."

Brian Conway, Category Buying Manager for Safeway Northern Ireland, added: "This contract is another example of how Safeway works with local companies in Northern Ireland and helps them develop their business. We are committed to supplying our customers with the highest quality foods and these American Fries meet all Safeway's stringent quality requirements.

"Safeway now sources £235 million worth of products from local suppliers and this latest contract with Ballymoney Foods will help to increase that figure this year."
