Woman shot in abdomen during domestic incident

A 45-year-old woman is in a stable condition in hospital after being shot in the stomach on the outskirts of west Belfast.

The incident, which police believe to have been a domestic dispute, took place at a farmhouse in Wheelers Road, Hannahstown. The remains of a bouquet of flowers were found across the yard outside their front door.

The police were called to the house shortly after 1am on Friday after a neighbour reported hearing a disturbance. Officers found the woman inside and she was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast for treatment.

It is understood the woman lived in the house with her fiancé, a local teacher in his 40s.

Police confirmed that a man had been detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

In a separate incident, a man has been shot in the leg in a paramilitary-style attack in south Belfast. The incident happened shortly after 8pm on Thursday at the junction of Matilda Drive and the Donegall Road.
