Portstewart Killing: Four Charged

The weekend murder of a man outside a Co Londonderry nightclub has led to charges against four people.

The men will appear before Ballymena Magistrates Court this morning charged in connection with the murder of Trevor Spiers, 23, in Portstewart, last Sunday.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder, assault and affray. Three other men have been charged with affray.

Mr Spiers was injured in a fight outside the Havana nightclub, part of Shenanigans bar, on the Promenade shortly before 2am on Sunday and then he later died from his injuries in hospital.

Accused 'Confesses To Harte Murder'
Police in Mauritius have alleged that one of the three men charged in connection to the killing of Michaela Harte has confessed to the killing. Avinash Treebhoowoon, 29, appeared in court on Wednesday, along with Sandip Moneea, 41, and Raj Theekoy, 33.

Officer injured in hammer assault
A police officer has been injured after being struck with a hammer in Co Armagh at the weekend. The incident occurred after officers were called to the Thomas Street area of Portadown on Sunday after a Portuguese man reported damage to his car. When officers arrived they saw a man being assaulted in a separate incident nearby.

Lawyer considers client's 'overexposure'
The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.

Duo Charged With Killing Lithuanian Man
Two men from Lithuania have been charged with the murder of a 20-year-old fellow countryman in Dungannon at the weekend. Ricardas Stronkus, 20, and Vaidotas Stirbys, 18, both denied the charges of the murder of Donatas Veleeka.
