Minister launches Skillbuild Northern Ireland 2002

Minister for Employment and Learning, Carmel Hanna, was guest speaker on Wednesday February 20 at the launch of the Skillbuild NI 2002 Competition in Omagh.

Paying tribute to those involved in organising the competition, Mrs Hanna said that skills competitions such as Skillbuild NI 2002 played an important role in raising the profile of construction skills and in demonstrating the high standard of skills training right across Northern Ireland.

She added: “The construction industry is critically important for the future growth of the Northern Ireland economy, and we need to develop the skills and knowledge of our young people in order that industry can maintain the competitiveness which is necessary for increased efficiency and employment.

“This competition makes a real difference to the skills development and future aspirations of young people working towards a career in the construction industry.”

Employer Skills Survey Results Published
The results of the 2015 Employer Skills Survey, managed by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES), have been published by Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry. Minister Farry launched the report at an meeting of business, education and training representatives in Belfast Metropolitan College's Titanic Quarter Campus.

The New Sector Skills Council For Construction
Charles Clarke, the Secretary for State for Education, has given the green light to the new sector skills council for the construction industry. Known as ConstructionSkills, the new SSC will comprise CITBGB in partnership with CITBNI (Northern Ireland) and CIC (Construction Industry Council).
