Deadline looms for dot biz domain name
Northern Ireland businesses have less than one month to stake a claim for one of 39,000 generic .biz domain names such as 'small.biz' or register their own company name.
The closing date for .biz domain applications is March and one domain name specialist is shutting their doors early.
Internetters, one of only six Neulevel-accredited UK registrars, is only accepting registrations until February 26 to give its customers a greater chance of success in gaining the names they want.
As the application process will work on a 'round robin' basis amongst accredited registrars, Internetters believes its customers will have more chance of success if it has a short queue of applications, as opposed to other registars with millions of applications.
Six hundred thousand .biz names are already in use worldwide (nine per cent in the UK), which is taken as showing that businesses see the domain name as more international than .com which has 85 per cent of its registrations in the United States.
