Latest ATM Robbery Fails

Another cash machine has been targeted by ram-raiders.

This time it was at a Bank of Ireland branch in Main Street, Keady, which was attacked with a construction digger shortly after 3am on Wednesday.

The actual safe was, however, found buried in the rubble after the thieves were unable to remove it.

Their suspected getaway car, a silver Peugeot 406, was later found burnt out about ten miles away over the border in Castleblaney, Co Monaghan.

Since March, there have been ten thefts of ATMs across Northern Ireland where the machines have been physically removed.

A digger was used to force an ATM machine from a supermarket wall off the Main Street in Kells during the early hours of last Friday and was then set alight by the thieves.

There have also been a number of attempted thefts which have caused major damage to shops and banks.

A reward of up to £25,000 is being offered for anyone who can help catch the criminals targeting cash machines in Northern Ireland.

The police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information to contact them at Armagh on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
