An Post To Cut 1,300 Jobs By 2012

An Post has announced plans to reduce its workforce by more than 1,300 over the next three years.

The company is seeking to cut 250 jobs from its Dublin headquarters in the first phase of the cuts from January.

Around 450 staff have already received letters regarding voluntary redundancy.

The job cuts are part of An Post's restructuring plans, as mail postal volumes dropped by 10% this year and the full liberalisation of the postal market is due to begin in 2011.

The total number of jobs expected to be cut if 1,375 full-time posts from the staff of 10,000, with cuts expected in all areas of the business, including headquarters, collection, retail and processing. An Post siad that change programmes had already resulted in the reduction of staff numbers, with the loss of 351 employees in the last year alone.

An Post has said that any redundancies would be voluntary.

Lloyds To Cut Another 645 Jobs
Unite the union is demanding guarantees of no compulsory redundancies following the announcement by Lloyds Banking Group that it planned to cut a further 645 jobs and close its Warrington telephone banking centre. Over 2,400 jobs have gone at the taxpayer bailed out bank since the start of the year leading to plummeting staff morale.

Jobs Fears At West Belfast Company
Around 100 jobs are under threat at a medical equipment company in west Belfast. The American owned firm Trivirix International has gone into administration and union officials have today warned that jobs may have to be cut.

IT Firm Creates 100 New Jobs
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD, today announced that Mandiant, a specialist provider of IT security solutions is to establish an engineering and security operations centre in Dublin with the creation of 100 new jobs.
