Finance Minister backs EU Awareness Day strategy
Taking advantage of EU peace funding packages requires specialist advice and the proactive approach by a Local Strategy Partnership (LSP) in Tyrone has been strongly endorsed by the Minister of Finance and Personnel, Dr Seán Farren.
The Minister made the remarks as he visited a Funding Awareness Day in Cookstown. Organised by Cookstown Local Strategy Partnership and Cookstown District Council, the event attracted representatives from more than 20 funding agencies who were on hand to advise members of the public, community groups and voluntary organisations on how to obtain information and guidance on accessing EU aid under the PEACE II Programme.
Commending the LSP and District Council for their ’hands on’ approach, the Minister said: “PEACE II offers a range of support for local communities, and I would encourage everyone to play a full part in ensuring that funds go where they are needed.
“The rural community has suffered significant setbacks in recent times and the support available through PEACE II can assist in the continuing regeneration of those areas."
Dr Farren added that the Local Strategy Partnerships had a long term role to play in developing strategies for local areas and that they were in a key position to advance local communities. He also said it was in everyone’s interest to ensure that this aid went to those who needed it most.
