Quad Bike Tragedy Mourned
A boy has died and another has been critically injured following a collision involving a quad bike in Co Londonderry overnight.
A 14-year-old died in the accident which happened at about 10pm on Thursday on the Craigmore Road in Maghera.
It is believed that the quad bike was the only vehicle involved in the incident which also left a 16-year-old boy very seriously injured.
Today, SDLP Maghera councillor Kathleen Lagan has expressed her sympathy to the family of the young boy.
Ms Lagan, who knows the young boy and his family extremely well, said: "This is the most traumatic experience any parent, any person, can possibly go through and my heart goes out to the family.
"Unfortunately, the family has suffered its fair share of tragedy in the past and I would like to offer my extreme sympathies and condolences to them. They do not deserve this. Nobody deserves a tragedy like this. It is utterly heart-wrenching.
"I know that the community, who hold the young boy and his family in such high esteem, will gather around and offer help or support during the tough times ahead. It may be of little consolation to the family but it shows just how well they are thought of in the community," she said.
"I also hope the other young boy injured in the incident makes a speedy and full recovery from his injuries.
"At the moment our thoughts and prayers are with his parents and family. This is also a terrible time for them," she said.
