Dublin glass container manufacturer to close factory
Around 375 jobs are to be lost in Dublin after glass container manufacturer Ardagh revealed it is to close one of its factories.
The company said they expected operations at its Ringsend operations to end in June following a failure to agree on work practice reforms at the plant between management and staff there.
However the company did say that its base on the mainland, Rockware Glass would remain open as it continues to trade profitably.
Tánaiste Mary Harney expressed her disappointment at the announcement of job losses and said it was a huge blow to the many families affected.
Ardagh is based in Ireland and quoted on the Irish Stock Exchange and is one of the leading glass container manufacturers in Europe.
The company's previous combination of the Irish Glass facility in Dublin and the four Rockware plants in the UK once made the group market leader in the combined Irish / UK glass container market with a market share in excess of 40 per cent.
