McGimpsey announces £169m extra lottery cash for NI

Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister, Michael McGimpsey has revealed that Northern Ireland is set to share in the additional £169 million Lottery funding being made available across the UK.

The Minister, making the announcement on Friday March 1 said: “I am delighted that over the next three years Northern Ireland will benefit to the tune of around £6 million under the ‘Fairshare’ initiative which was launched on Friday by the Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. It will target those deprived areas which have received less Lottery funding than other parts of the UK.

“The initiative will be administered by the New Opportunities Fund and the Community Fund. These organisations are currently working to identify the areas which satisfy the initiative’s criteria in Northern Ireland and expect to be in a position to announce full details in September.”
