Subsidy Scheme To Save Jobs

The Government's Employment Subsidy scheme has been launched, and is expected to save up to 35,000 jobs.

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Mary Coughlan revealed the plan today, which will include direct support for 7,478 jobs in its first round.

Some 453 employers are to be informed of their successful application under the scheme, under which a subsidy of €9,100 over 15 months is provided per qualifying employee in vulnerable but viable firms.

The Tánaiste said each of the companies who will receive support under the scheme have committed to retaining an agreed level of employees until December 2010.

Companies around Ireland have now committed to retain 35,283 jobs as a result of this scheme.
