Four injured in paramilitary-style attacks across the province
Four men have been injured in separate paramilitary-style attacks in Northern Ireland.
In the first incident, a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg in County Antrim. The attack happened at about 5.15pm on Thursday February 28 in the Carnhill Walk area of Carrickfergus. Two men overpowered the man and forced him to the ground.
Carrickfergus UUP Alderman Roy Beggs said paramilitaries were “torturing individuals” and preventing a fair trial. “These self appointed paramilitaries are meting out their own brutal form of so-called justice in both loyalist and republican areas,” he said.
“What is clear is that both loyalists and republicans are both abusing the fundamental human rights of Northern Ireland’s citizens. The only fair way of determining guilt is through the courts.”
Later, a 19-year-old man was shot in the leg and arm in Larne. The man was forced into the boot of a car in the Killyglen area of the town at about 9.30pm on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a 21-year-old was shot in the hands and legs in north Belfast. The incident happened shortly before midnight in Butler Place in the Ardoyne area.
In the fourth incident, a 19-year-old man was injured in an attack in Newtownabbey. He was found at the rear of houses at Tynan Close, Monkstown, at about 4.15pm after being shot in both calves.
