Public play role in distribution of £4.3m Peace Funding
Lisburn Partnership recently put plans together for the distribution of £4.3 million worth of funds from the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation after a public consultation at the Island Civic Centre.
The aim of the consultation day was to inform the public about the differences in the Peace programmes (Peace I and Peace II) and to give those attending an opportunity to influence how the allocated money is spent.
Lisburn Partnership has drafted a strategic framework to be used in the distribution of the £4.3 million and during the consultation day the partnership is seeking to get feedback from the groups and projects who will be seeking funding so as to complete the strategy and action plan.
The criteria for the funding will require groups or projects to be engaged in the development of the social economy and providing human resources, training and development.
Speaking at the event, Aisling Owens, Vice-Chair of Lisburn Partnership, said: "Today's event is all about securing the engagement of the public in terms of what they believe are the priorities for the Lisburn Borough Council area in terms of implementing Peace II.
"We also want to ensure that the £4.3 million of funds allocated will leave behind sustainable projects that have a lasting impact on the Borough, it's communities and it's residents".
