Trade Minister visits County Down textile company
The Minister for Enterprise Trade and Investment Sir Reg Empey has paid a visit to County Down textile company Bradfor Ltd.
The company, which is based in Rostrevor in south Down, manufactures aircraft seat covers and is currently seeking to expand its workforce.
Speaking during his visit Sir Reg said: “Whilst our textile industry in Northern Ireland has experienced difficulties over recent years, the success of firms such as Bradfor Ltd show that flexibility and willingness to diversify can ensure future success and a brighter future for the textile sector as a whole.
“Bradfor Ltd is to be congratulated for the positive impact it is having on the local economy by employing a workforce of 38 people and investing in their ongoing development,” the Minister said.
“I believe that the company is also actively recruiting an additional 20 employees, thanks to an order book that has been growing despite the recent troubles in the commercial aviation industry. This is all good news indeed for this rural area,” Sir Reg added.
The LEDU client company which places a strong emphasis on staff development, is currently progressing towards Investor In People status.
Bradfor’s Managing Director is Patricia Clements who founded the company in 1996.
She said: “I would like to acknowledge the support of our customers, particularly B/E Aerospace for their continuing support, especially in the difficult times over the last few months. Bradfor has been able to adapt and change in the past and we will continue to develop and change to meet the needs of all our customers.”

Local textile company receives IDB lifeline
Jobs have been saved at Saintfield Yarns thanks to a rescue plan put forward by the Industrial Development Board (IDB) which has managed to secure enough funding to protect the 140 members of the remaining workforce.

Carrickfergus textile company to close
Fifty jobs have been lost following the closure of a textiles company in Carrickfergus. The County Antrim company, Flaxall Limited, was a family run business and has been in operation for more than 60-years. The firm was responsible for printing, dying and finishing fabric.
