BNP 'Question Time' Provokes Protest
Protestors against the British National Party yesterday took to the streets in NI's two major cities - as well as hundreds more turning out in violent protest in London at the same time as the NI confrontations were taking place.
News that the BNP Leader Nick Griffin was to go on air as a panellist on the BBC's flagship Question Time programme last night led to the demonstrations being staged in Belfast and Londonderry.
About 100 anti-fascist protesters were involved in a stand-off with 10 BNP supporters outside Broadcasting House at Ormeau Avenue on Thursday evening.
During altercations, a 35-year-old woman was arrested for breach of peace and released on bail.
On foot of the appearance, the BBC defended the invitation, and said it was "appropriate" given the support the BNP received in the last European election when it gained its first MEPs.
BBC Deputy Director General Mark Byford said it had been "appropriate" to invite Mr Griffin to appear given the support the BNP received in the last European elections.

A right wing UK nationalist party has been leafleting an east Belfast soccer match. The presence of the British National Party (BNP) members outside the Glentoran V Glenavon football game at the Oval has been described as uninvited and unwelcome by both fans and by Robin Newton, the East Belfast DUP MLA and Stormont Junior Minister.

People with addresses in Northern Ireland who are on the list of British National Party (BNP) members leaked on the internet have been warned to increase their personal security. PSNI Appeals Protest Judgement
The PSNI has said it will appeal a verdict by a judge who said that officers had facilitated illegal loyalist flag protests through a misapprehension regarding the law. High Court Judge Mr Justice Treacy said a senior officer had been mistaken in believing he was legally prevented from stopping parades and making arrests.

The island of Ireland could be split into two different time zones, following the debate of a Brighter Evenings Bill in the Dáil. TDs are debating whether or not to introduce a measure in the Republic of Ireland that would see clocks move an hour forward; putting them out of sync with Northern Ireland.
