Delayed Enterprise passengers to get compensation
Translink have pledged to offer compensation to passengers who were delayed after the Belfast to Dublin Enterprise service broke down at Newry.
The 06.50am service on Wednesday March 13, which had 180 passengers on board, stopped in Newry station after a fault light registered on a safety panel. The service was terminated at Newry as a precaution and the passengers had to wait 50 minutes to be transferred onto the 8am service.
Translink said that the delayed passengers would be offered compensation in line with guidelines set down in passengers' charter.
This latest disruption in the Belfast to Dublin Enterprise service is the second serious delay in two weeks. On February 28, the train was halted just 100 metres shy of the Belfast Central Station platform for six hours in was described as an "extraordinary delay".
On that occasion, the 47 passengers – who were eventually allowed to leave the train at 2.30am – were offered £100 or a weekend break in Dublin as compensation.
The assembly's Regional Development Committee is scheduled to discuss the recent problems with Enterprise service managers at its weekly meeting on Wednesday evening.
PJ Bradley MLA, a member of the Regional Development Committee, said: "When the most important train on the most important line in the country breaks down twice in two weeks it sends out a terrible message to those would-be investors coming into Ireland."
