Compaq to shed 30 jobs in Dublin relocation
Compaq is to make around 30 staff redundant, following the computer company's decision to merge two of its business units in Dublin.
Employees at the two support centres – one based at East Point and the other located in Clonskeagh - were informed about the possibility of job losses during a briefing to discuss details of the relocation plan, which will see the transfer of the 280-strong workforce at East Point to its Clonskeagh office.
The move comes as a result of a restructuring review which examined the role of managers within the existing Compaq structure, which entailed an intensive series of "re-interviews" with individuals as high up the managerial ladder as the Managing Director of Compaq's Clonskeagh unit, Jack Cunnane.
Confirming the news that at least 30 managers were to lose their jobs, Mr Cunnane said that the job losses would not affect Compaq's ability to handle client requirements, as the company was still actively recruiting "customer-facing" employees and would soon increase the levels of such staff to 1,000 at Clonskeagh.
