Student Lawyers To 'Plead' For Prize

Budding lawyers in Northern Ireland are being 'called to the bar' to pitch their powers of persuasion against the best in the country with the launch of 'The Advocate', an All Ireland Advocacy Challenge.

Northern Ireland students studying a law degree or taking law as part of their degree are being asked to construct and then present an argument in an attempt to claim part of the overall €3,500 prize fund that is being offered.

The competition is being run by McCann FitzGerald in association with the Northern Ireland Court Service and the Courts Service of Ireland with the Northern Ireland regional heats being held on 13th November in The Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast.

John Cronin, Chairman at McCann Fitzgerald, said: "Critical skills for solicitors are the ability to understand the business issues and to articulate and deliver practical legal responses for clients.

"This unique challenge is designed to give participants a good opportunity to hone these skills as they prepare for their legal career," he said.

Students interested in participating should visit: www.mccannfitzgerald.ie/theadvocate.asp
