Orangeman Dominate Glasgow Marches
One of Scotland's major cities hosts more Orange Order parades than Belfast.
Just days after Strathclyde Police's management body reported concerns over the cost of policing Glasgow parades, (see: Glasgow Orange Parades Policing Queried) another report has said that the city now has more loyalist and republican marches than Belfast.
According to figures just revealed, there were 247 loyalist or republican parades in Glasgow, compared with 217 similar demonstrations in Belfast.
The earlier report said there were 1,061 processions last year, which required 50,000 hours of police time and that the bill came to £1.7m. It also said there were 96 arrests.
While there are other marches besides the loyalist and republican ones, including the Boys Brigade, May Day and Scottish CND, loyalists have the most and the Orange Order has the largest.
More than a third of the money during the last financial year was spent on the main Orange parade in Glasgow.
The new study said that the resources of Scotland's largest police force are being stretched by the growing number of marches and parades.
The reports said a "disproportionate number of officers" were being deployed with "no means of cost recovery".

Thousands gather for peaceful Twelfth parades
The police have commended all communities for taking part in peaceful twelfth parades and are very pleased that no major incidents occurred. Tens of thousands of Orangemen attended the parades across Northern Ireland yesterday and all of the marches passed off peacefully.

Orange Order to reconsider relationship with Parades Commission
The Orange Order is to reconsider its policy on the Parades Commission at a special meeting to be held tomorrow. Under current Orange Order policy, the two groups do not engage directly with each other in discussions over controversial marches, however it is understood that many members of the order would like to see this policy changed.

Parades Commission appointments "unlawful"
The High Court has today overturned the appointment of a prominent Orangeman onto the Parades Commission. A High Court judge quashed the appointment of Portadown Orange Order member, David Burrow, who was given the position in November last year.

SF hit out at DUP Forum participation
Sinn Féin's Pat Doherty has hit out at the DUP for sitting down on a West Belfast Parades Forum which allegedly includes members of paramilitary organisations. The West Tyrone MP said that the readiness of the DUP to sit alongside members of the UDA and UVF on the Forum showed the" sickening hypocrisy" of Ian Paisley's party.
