Brian Kennedy in concert to aid family's continued search

International singing star Brian Kennedy has agreed to play a special fund-raising concert to aid the search for the three lost generations of the Greene family.

The Belfast-born musician said he wanted to do all he could to aid the operation to recover the boat carrying the Greene family. The vessel has yet to be found.

An eight-year-old boy, his 32-year-old father and 54-year-old grandfather, all called Michael Greene, were all on board the Tullaghmurray Lass, which was due to be decommissioned under a government scheme.

The missing boat left the port in Kilkeel, County Down, to fish for prawns on 14 February, but never returned. The Royal Navy and Irish Navy pulled out of the search last week leaving local fishermen to continue the search.

Last Tuesday part of the boat’s wheelhouse was recovered in the net of a boat which had been fishing for prawns.

The concert was arranged within 24 hours by two friends of the Greene family, Rita Mullholland and Paul Hourican. It is set to take place in the Slieve Donard hotel in Newcastle, County Down, on Wednesday 27 March. Tickets for the concert, priced £25, are available from Ticketmaster, the Slieve Donard Hotel and various outlets in County Down.

A memorial service was held on Thursday to mark the month anniversary of the missing family. The service was held at St Joseph’s church in Ballymartin on Thursday evening. (AMcE)
