Latest PO Robbery Sparks Appeal

Yet another post office has been targeted by robbers.

Yesterday, Killyman PO, near Dungannon was the latest to be hit.

Although no one was hurt, a trend of such rural hold-ups is emerging after other such post offices - including a mobile - have been targeted over the last week.

Speaking after the incident, SDLP Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Tommy Gallagher called on people in Dungannon area to provide any information they could to help catch the person responsible.

He said: "Police have issued a description of a man about 5' 8" in height who may have escaped in a white Peugeot car.

"Recent experience of this kind of crime has shown that information from the public can lead to early arrests, particularly if it is supplied to the police without delay.

"The person who committed this robbery is likely to do it again soon, so the police need the help of the whole community to take him out of circulation and bring him to justice," he said, appealing for help.

A spokesperson for the Post Office meanwhile said that while no-one was hurt, a member of staff was shaken by the experience.

"Our priority is to provide support for all concerned," he said.

"We are giving full assistance to the police as they investigate the incident and would encourage anyone with information to come forward.

"The branch will remain closed until enquires are complete," he continued, noting that, in the meantime customers may use any Post Office branch.

"However, the nearest ones are located at Tamnamore and Moy," he concluded.
