Interpol Conference Comes To Ireland

A major crime and law enforcement event is being held next week in Dublin.

Attended by the police chiefs from both sides of the border, the 2009 International Law Enforcement Intellectual Property Crime Conference will take place in the Four Seasons Hotel.

The event, from September 29th to October 1st, is being co-hosted by An Garda Síochána, Interpol and the Police Service of Northern Ireland and will incorporate operational workshops for both public and private sector intellectual property crime investigators.

The conference will focus on how the public and private sectors can fight against the increasing circulation of counterfeit goods in times of an economic world crisis.

The Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy, the newly installed Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland Matt Baggot and the Secretary General of Interpol Ronald Noble will be present for the opening of the conference

The moderators for the conference will be U.S. District Court Judge Ronald S.W. Lew, and Assistant Commissioner of the National Support Services Derek Byrne.

The conference is the third international conference of its kind and the first one to be held in Europe, more details can be found at www.UL.com/ace

Earlier this month, a similar event took place in Northern Ireland, hosted by the NIO.

Security Minister and Chair of the Organised Crime Task Force Paul Goggins told the audience at the anti money laundering conference in Belfast that he 'means business'.

Emphasising partnership working between the business community and law enforcement agencies in Northern Ireland, he said both have a key role to play in the fight against those who attempt to launder the proceeds of crime.
