British Woman Charged With Baby Death In Crete
A young British woman has now been charged with the murder of her new born baby in a hotel room in Crete.
The 20-year-old woman, from London, who has not been identified, was arrested in Malia after she was taken to hospital with heavy bleeding.
Police were notified when local residents rushed the woman to hospital after she gave birth in her room.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We can confirm a British national was charged with the murder of her baby in Malia, Crete, today. We are providing consular assistance."
Police spokesman Panagiotis Stathis said earlier: "A young British girl, 20-years-old, has been arrested in Malia on suspicion of child murder.
"She will be taken before the prosecutor, who will decide on the charges," he said.
The baby was found dead in the room with sheets around its neck and covering its face.
A coroners report concluded that the child died of asphyxiation.
It is understood the woman had travelled to Crete on holiday with her sister and a female companion from Britain.

Baby Death Mother Named
The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named. Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday. Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.

A pregnant woman has been attacked with a baseball bat and a knife at her home in Basildon, Essex. The 22-year-old woman, who was in labour, was getting ready to leave her home with her partner to go to the hospital when a gang raided her home. She was hit with a baseball bat and slashed with a knife.

Missing Baby Found 'Safe And Well'
A nine-month-old baby girl who was reported missing from her home in Glouchestershire on Monday has been found safe and well. Maylayah Delaney had been reported missing by her mother shortly before lunch-time on Monday. Police have confirmed that a man from the West Midlands is helping them with their inquiries.

A woman has been charged with the murder of 10-month-old Chloe Sutherland, it has been reported. A 35-year-old woman, said to be the little girl's mother, made no plea or declaration during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today. She has been remanded in custody.
