Van Morrison receives jazz award

East Belfast veteran singing sensation has been named best international male singer of 2007 at Ronnie Scott’s first international awards ceremony.

Ronnie Scott’s is known as one of the world’s nest jazz clubs. Scott first opened the club in 1959 with friend and fellow tenor saxophonist Pete King.

Other winners include Jamie Cullum, named as best male singer and Amy Winehouse who received an award for the British jazz crossover album, for her ‘Back to Black’ record.

Tony Bennett, aged 80, was awarded the Ronnie Scott award for lifetime achievement for services to jazz.

Mica Paris and Courtney Pine, who performed at the world famous venue, also received awards.

Around 1,500 members of the public voted for their favourite musicians and singers in the first ever awards of its kind.

NI 'Stars' At Irish Film & TV Awards
