Passengers killed as two Italian trains collide

Several people have been killed and many others are reported to have been injured, following the collision of two trains close to Bologna in northern Italy.

Italian news sources reported that at least 14 people have been killed in the accident, which happened near Crevalcore station, 25 kilometres from Bologna.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that a freight train and a passenger train collided. Fog has been cited as a possible contributory cause of the crash.

Italian news agency, Ansa, stated that the country's National Fire Department had removed seven bodies from the wreckage.

Efforts to locate any further trapped or injured passengers were continuing on Friday afternoon.

Final UK Stage Of Tour de France Underway
