Convicted rapist wins £7m lotto jackpot
A sex offender who was jailed for life in 1989 for an attempted rape has won £7 million on the National Lottery, it has been reported today.
Fifty-two-year-old Iorworth Hoare, who is nearing the end of his sentence, bought one of Saturday's three winning tickets while staying at a bail hostel in Middlesborough. He has since been moved to a maximum security jail for his own safety, The Sun has reported.
Under Home Office rules, prisoners released on temporary licence can play the National Lottery and claim winnings.
Hoare, who is originally from Leeds, has a history of sex assault convictions dating back more than 30 years. He was imprisoned for seven years in 1983 for rape, and also has a total of three attempted rape convictions.
The BBC has reported that Hoare may now be open to compensation claims from his victims.
Camelot, the company which runs the national lottery, would only confirm that, of the three tickets sharing the £21 million jackpot, two winners have opted remain anonymous and the third ticketholder has yet to come forward.
