NI Security Minister visits US on fact-finding mission
Security Minister Jane Kennedy is visiting Canada and the US this week as part of a fact-finding mission in the fight against organised crime.
The Minister, who is also the chairperson of Northern Ireland’s Organised Crime Task Force, will discuss the measures taken in both countries to combat the growing problem of organised crime.
During her time in Canada, the Minister will hold discussions with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa on Border Enforcement methods and will visit a Canada/United States border crossing point to see how both the Canadian and United States officials apply their respective controls.
The Minister will then travel to Chicago, Washington and New York where she will meet key personnel from respective law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, New York Police Department and the US Attorney’s Office.
The creation of the Organised Crime Task Force was announced in September 2000.
Members of the Task Force include: HM Customs and Excise, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Office, the Home Office, the Inland Revenue, the National Criminal Intelligence Service and other government agencies.

NI Lorry Driver Jailed In Connection With £3m Drug Seizure
A 38-year-old man has been jailed in connection with the largest single drug seizure by the PSNI. At Belfast Crown Court, Andrew Stafford pleaded guilty to possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply and possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply.

Over 700,000 Illegal Prescription Medications Seized
712,000 illegal and unlicensed tablets and medicines destined for addresses throughout Northern Ireland have been seized as part of an international operation. During Operation Pangea XVI multiple packages of tablets, with a street value of approximately £785,000 were intercepted.
